Hello,

I'm Donna Mattfield, a peace and disarmament campaigner with Greenpeace International in Amsterdam. I'm writing to you to ask for your help in creating a pre-emptive peace strike.

You may have read in the news recently about revelations that the United States is considering plans for a nuclear strike on Iran. I know I'm not alone in thinking this is an insane way to tell a country that it's wrong to develop nuclear weapons.

And where would these weapons come from? The type of weapons the US are including in their plans could be among those stored in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and the UK.

Join me in asking for a simple assurance from the NATO countries which host American nuclear weapons that they'll not endorse or cooperate with a pre-emptive nuclear strike on Iran.

When I first heard that the US still maintains 480 nuclear weapons in NATO bases in Europe I was shocked. I find it hard to comprehend that in 2006, 16 years after the cold war ended, those of us who live here are still sitting on such a dangerous legacy. The Bush Administration can't treat Europe as a convenient parking lot for its destructive missiles. The situation in Iran brings home a very scary fact: the Bush administration could implicate independent European nations in a war that shuns diplomatic solutions and invites retaliation, with or without the consent of the countries that host those nuclear weapons.

It doesn't have to be like this. Join our campaign to eliminate the threat altogether by calling for the US to take back and dismantle its nuclear weapons from Europe and Turkey altogether, and to begin the work of creating a nuclear free zone in the Middle East. The choice is simple: a world in which everybody is threatened by nuclear weapons, or nobody is. I know which world I want to live in.

a merry meet by monitor light to all circumspect bonniebonnets..

CONFESSION: last year i challenged the USA magical community to send
forth their very best champions for a transatlantic-ish magical duel.

UK, N.Europe & er, Canada to be represented by myself.

i set up a 'kill zone' (no 'yield' option) and a simple start score:

combat arena, and a bit of shield bashing and sword rattling on

others from hard-copy journals) i produced a simple 'press release'
(which saved blistering my two 'typing' fingers.. ahem).

in essence it explained that i won because (like cassius vs george)
my bravery penetrated my opponents er, power.

since then i have suffered from acute boredom!

can any members suggest a cure (i too young to be old:)

hi andre :)

firstly, my own errend is to convey information that illustrates possible useful patterns of social truth which have proven their worth in some way. how others choose to react to this process is very much part of it.. so 'until executed' my work is not complete.

secondly, as i explore (to teach and learn) in the wonderful worlds of haiku i respond in kind. the sillyness and conceit of some and the fiddling and deleting of organic themes was interesting here as i had never come across this outside of a zoo. naturally one responds with heuristic purpose?

thirdly, always remember this.. only in a fight to the death (ok, with a yield option) is excellence achieved - like starryknights questing forevertomorrow.

finally, whatever you choose to do to avoid magical-reality-in-art (so to say) is fine, as explained all this is to do with returning art to its origins as a tool of 'primitive' psi-technology (shamanic and religious, quite real, magic).

ps: i may use this history on some of my blogs and explore the subject more deeply with others, so that's me learning something that would never have been learned but for the history described :) obviously, as a courtesy, i will post your links beside any pieces that take off at the world haiku club or whatever.

yes, an interesting subject, and --johnboy (all my good-hearted friends and admirers insist in calling me this because they know it infuriates me to the point of boredom:)

(who, apparently, ate live frogs as part of his act - conscripts would be trained to jump through little woven flower hoops into his open mouth whereby he would swallow them whole and later re-cycle them quite alive & kicking!)
